Germany Beats Netherlands, 2-1 in Euro2012
Mario Gomez’s 2 marvelous first-half goals were enough for Leaving Netherlands in shock in Metalist Stadium, Kharkiv. Netherlands were constantly trying to fight back as they were in tremendous pressure after Mario Gomez struck twice in 24 min. & 38 min. of first half but opposition who were trying hard to win or even equalize were only able to score one goal by Robin Van Persie & that too in 73 min.
Robin van Persie‘s goal made Germany anxious, but Mario Gomez’s 2 elegant goals were ultimately enough for the Netherlands. Many German fans were doubtful of this victory because of their performances in last UEFA Champions League defeat in final but German proved their critics wrong in vigorous fashion.
Netherlands hang about in bottom of Group B because of loss both of their loss in Euro2012 games (last loss was in Denmark Vs Netherlands ) & on the other hand Germany after beating Netherlands & Portugal in Euro2012 leading the points table and Team Germany are on the verge of reaching the quarter-finals. This was the team Germany 13th consecutive competitive victory.
Germany was very confident on the field may be because of their last encounter with Dutch where they had crushed the Dutch 3-0 last year. Van Persie twice tried to put the Dutch in front within 11 minutes but they couldn’t capitalize. Germany were playing as an integrated team with all players knowing their role, they never looked unplanned. Though Schweinsteiger was performer & manager rolled into one, no one disbelief his character.
Holger Badstuber messed up his defenses when the header struck Maarten Stekelenberg, but within a minute there was a goal & score changed to 2-0. The man they call ‘Schweiny‘ touches a pleasant first-time pass & Mario Gomez blazed a shot above Stekelenberg without breaking pace. Stekelenberg then kept the Dutch in the game when he stopped Özil’s deflected free-kick, but Van Marwijk was in need of help from forwards & Klaas-Jan Huntelaar & Rafael van der Vaart were obvious half-time changes.
Now it’s time for Netherlands to pull up their pants & show some good game if they want to reach the quater-finals (yes, Netherlands can still make it up to the quarterfinal ) but there are lots of permutations & combinations involved but dutch should only focus on playing their best game & win. Team Germany is sighting Quaterfinal or Knockout stages & they are looking very good as team & i’ll not be surprise if Germany wins Euro2012.
